Sherrie Smith, CPHQ, President & Founder
After working more than 20 years in health care, Mrs. Smith founded Quality Improvement Group, LLC, with a goal of helping hospitals and other health care providers improve processes and outcomes to provide safer care to their patients. Her experience includes serving as vice president of a hospital overseeing such functions as the medical staff organization, physician recruitment, quality management, case management, home health, community health clinics, health information management (HIM), social services, utilization review, and infection control. In addition to her hospital experience, Mrs. Smith has experience at the state Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) to include work on the CMS Care Transitions demonstration project. Outside her work in the health care field, Mrs. Smith served four years as an examiner for the Alabama Quality Award program, the state level program modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Mrs. Smith holds a Master Certificate in Lean Six Sigma with the designation of Six Sigma Black Belt from Villanova University, the credentials of Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), and Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) 1991-2009.
William E. Smith, Jr., MD, FACS, Co-founder
Dr. Smith is the co-founder and Vice President of Quality Improvement Group, LLC. Dr. Smith has a full time general surgery practice as a partner and President of Surgical Arts, PC in Cullman Alabama, is certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Smith’s credentials also include certification in healthcare quality, CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality). As a physician leader in the medical community, Dr. Smith currently serves as medical director of the Surgery Center of Cullman. He has served as chairman and/or co-chairman of the hospital’s Quality Management Council for more than 20 years, and has held numerous other positions of leadership at two hospitals, to include: chief of staff, chairman of peer review committees, medical executive committees and numerous other committees and councils. Dr. Smith is skilled in root cause analysis (RCA) and is a licensed private pilot. Those skills serve him well as a physician leader and health care quality improvement professional.
Virginia R. Smith, RN, Infection Control Consultant
Ginger is a Registered Nurse licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing. She served in clinical leadership positions prior to beginning her work in infection control and employee health in 1993. Professional membership includes the Association for Professionals in Infection Control, both nationally and the state chapter, serving as membership secretary for Al-APIC and member of the educational committee for the local APIC chapter. She has extensive knowledge and experience in applying JCAHO and other regulatory body requirements. Ginger joined our team in 2012..
Jing Li, MD, MS, Data Analyst
Jing is a contract member of our team who provides statistical analysis and advice on an as-needed basis. She works in a full-time capacity as the Manager of Research Data Analysis at the Division of Hospital Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She also serves as Project Director for three Northwestern-led initiatives under the Preventing Readmissions through Effective Partnerships (PREP) collaborative in the State of Illinois: Better Outcomes by Optimizing Safe Transitions (BOOST), Communication and Palliative Care (CPC), and Hospitalist Program Peak Performance (HP3). Before joining Northwestern, she worked at the Alabama QIO (Quality Improvement Organization) for 6 years as Research Analyst. In the QIO Care Transitions and Patient Safety projects, she played a critical role in all aspects of project design, measure defining, performance monitoring, data analysis, and program evaluation.
